[Ed-U-Cate] - To equip young scholars to reach their potential and beyond

                   “I became involved in Citizen Schools as an apprenticeship teacher after participating in their 6 Degrees event, which was promoted through my workplace, Cisco. I taught the Campbell Creative Crew class where students learned about advertising and the skills needed to create an ad campaign resulting in their own campaign development. The apprenticeship program is a place to teach what you love to students who require and desire knowledge on how they can become anything they want to be if they stay in school and go to college. The team at Campbell Middle School run a tight ship - keeping students inline, engaged and aware of their own brilliance. I have a long history of volunteering, fundraising and board membership with non-profits supporting children over the years. This approach currently has my attention and commitment - both heart and soul. ENVISIONEERS is a mission-driven organization committed to addressing the reality that systemic challenges in education have created too few of our nation's children the opportunity to thrive.  The future work landscape in the United States is uncharted with opportunities that will demand new talents and skills. Yet, the majority of our students lack the opportunities and networks needed to thrive in this shifting landscape. 

 

The overall trend from the most recent Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances shows:

  • Overall Household Disparity: The median wealth for a typical White household is $285,000, compared to $44,900 for a typical Black household.

  • The Relative Gap: Black households currently hold about 15 cents for every dollar of wealth held by White households, which is roughly the same proportional ratio as 2019.

  • The Absolute Gap: Because White household wealth grew much faster in total dollars during the pandemic recovery, the absolute dollar gap between the median White and Black family grew by nearly $50,000.

So while individual net worths rose across the board, since 2019, the structural gap between the groups remains heavily skewed.

PROGRAM ELEMENTS 

How do we do that? We foster and cultivate both the academic and social emotional skills of our scholars while exposing them to project-based learning with community mentors.

  • More real world problems bringing more relevance to why school matters!  

  • More real people for more relationship building and growth of self-worth, acceptance and empathy! More collaboration to increase their self-confidence and communication skills!  

  • More opportunities to be creative and problem solve

We leverage our expanded learning day model

  • Support self-efficacy, self-management, engagement, and teacher-student relationships as a pathway to academic gains

  • Our combination of cultivating positive relationships and providing collaborative, hands-on projects around problem solving are drivers of social emotional learning (SEL) for scholars

METHOD

Our method is building broad collaboration and unified commitment with all our partners - schools, businesses, colleges, city, funders, parents  and students for  semester-long, hands-on, project based, career pathway projects.

 

Every collaborator plays a role for either space, web access, transportation, shared resources, data collection, academic results, supplies, funding, and specific strategies.  

  • our local businesses and community members bring their expertise in the subject matter -  ENVISIONEER mentors

  • our ENVISIONEERS’ staff brings their classroom management and support to the students’ social emotional intelligence like confidence, empathy, persistence, along with the vital four  21st  Century skills of communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking 

  • our curriculum runs  the STEAM gamut from Activist Art and Investigative AI to Community Problem Solving and Electrical Engineering. Math Mysteries to Creative Writing.
